QUALIFICATIONS AND HEALTH TESTING

Before being placed in our breeding program, our dogs undergo health testing for hips, elbows, eyes and heart through OFA also known as the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and PennHip. You can view their clearances on their individual pages located on our website. We also do genetic testing to help identify any health condition genes and reduce the risk of passing them onto the future generations. All of our Goldens in our program as well as our puppies are registered with the American Kennel Club.

HOW TO JOIN THE WAITLIST

Steps to get on our waitlist

OUR FARM

We built our family log cabin and Golden Haven Nursery right beside each other on our 14+ acre farm. The Haven’s architecture and design was methodically built to ensure an environment that is spacious, sanitary and cozy for all of our dogs and family members. Our goldens always have access to be outside or inside in addition to having 24/7 access to automatic purified drinking water, whether inside the Haven or outside playing in the wood runs during the day. As a family of six, our hearts have always been to spend quality time together with our goldens. The Haven Nursery has become not only a place where we raise our puppies but also has become a place where we raise our children. From the time a puppy is born, our children are involved every step of the way along with us to ensure each puppy is well socialized, nurtured and loved.

OUR ADULT DOGS

One of our favorite parts of raising golden retrievers is our companionship with our moms, dads, and retirees. We get to love and be with our adult dogs who we have raised since birth. The bond and friendship we have cultivated with them is so important to our family.

Each golden is a part of our family and we prioritize their quality of life in every season.

MORE ABOUT OUR PUPPY PROGRAM

  • Our puppies are dewormed at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of age.
  • They are vet checked, microchipped and receive their first vaccinations around 6 weeks old.
  • Our puppies undergo early neurological stimulation as well as early scent introduction at a young age. Early neurological stimulation is conducted from the 3rd to 16th days, a period of rapid neurological growth and development. This stimulation requires handling the puppies one at a time while performing a series of exercises. This process is done in order to improve the health of the puppies and have a greater tolerance to stress and handling. Early Scent Introduction or ESI is a procedure done that helps puppies with their nose awareness and confidence which also occurs between days 3-16 of a puppies life.
  • After 3 weeks of age, we use sound training and conditioning in order to prepare our puppies for real world noises such as farm animals, baby cries, barking dogs, fireworks, grooming, kids playing, city traffic, vacuum cleaners, dish washer noises and much more.
  • While growing up at Golden Haven, our puppies are introduced to many different scenes of our farm, children and people interacting with them in positive ways.
  • At around 7 weeks, our trainers come out to perform temperament tests on the puppies in order to make the best possible matches for both puppies and families. When our puppies go home, we register them with American Kennel Club as well as AKC reunite, a lifetime recovery service for microchipped pets.

HOW LONG WILL I WAIT?

Waitlist longevity depends on the particular season as we have some seasons where we have more litters than others. We are happy to communicate about your spot on the waitlist and the timelines we anticipate. We also have to be flexible with our planning, as sometimes things may change slightly.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Our farm is located in Concord, NC. Most of our clients prefer to drive or fly in on pickup day in order to not only pick up their puppy but also meet the parents, the littermates and see the Haven Nursery. The best airport to fly into is CLT, Charlotte International Airport. If for some reason you would not like to travel in, we do offer a flight nanny service for an additional fee where we fly with the puppy and deliver him/her to your closest airport.

WHEN ARE PICKUP DAYS SCHEDULED? HOW DO THEY RUN?

Typically, we schedule pickup days 8 weeks out from when puppies are born. Once puppies have been born, in the first two weeks of life we will schedule our pickup date(s). Each family is allowed a 45 minute time slot at the farm to meet our Goldens, go over paperwork and get photos taken.

We love working with our golden haven family as they anticipate the day they bring their puppy home! We try our best to prepare each f amily in the weeks leading up to pickup day and are always available for questions. On pickup day, we send home each family with a Golden Haven Retrievers bag full of goodies such as our candle, blankets, toys, treats and many other items! We also include photography on pickup day and would love to capture the moments you first meet your golden. As ethical breeders, we care not just about the puppy stage, but also the lifespan of every one of our offspring. At Golden Haven, we value our relationships with our Golden Haven family and its desire to stay connected to show support and answer any questions along the way. We look forward to meeting you and your family!

All of our goldens in our breeding program undergo strict health screenings- elbow, heart, eyes, hips, PENNhips and genetic clearances before being bred. With this higher order of screenings we ensure that there is no cross breeding and reduse the chances for future health issues we unfortunately see today. Health-tested parents for healthier puppies. OFA has been around since 1966. With this system in place we are able to trace back over 10 generations to compare blood lines, strengths and weaknesses before breeding. Quality will always be what we strive for here at Golden Haven Puppies.
